Behind the Scenes
Bluebell season is upon us!
Wiston Estate is home to 22km of footpaths and 35km, and some of these wind through ancient woodland which, at this time of year, bursts to life with bluebells – and many other stunning spring flowers. While bluebells can be found all over the estate, the concentration is mostly in the north part of the estate around Spithandle Lane where there are a number of footpaths and bridle ways which wind through the beautiful woodland. If you are lucky you may hear a cuckoo! We have a couple of recommended routes which you can see on this map here.
Or arm yourself with your OS Map or snazzy ‘map app’ and have an explore. This website is a useful reference which shows footpaths and bridleways all across the UK. Keep an eye out for the estate boards which point out some of the other things you may spot on your walks. As ever – we ask visitors to follow The Countryside Code. This time of year adders are sunbathing as they come out of hibernation – do take care in grassy fields where they may be resting. Take care not to trample bluebells and other wildflowers or disturb wildlife. We hope to preserve this special place for generations to come, both people and nature.
