LANDSCAPE & NATURE TOURS
Forests for Wood & Wildlife
May 20 @ 9:30 am - 1:00 pm
Wiston Estate has nearly 500 hectares of woodland; that’s enough to cover all of urban Steyning, Bramber and Upper Beeding twice over. Since time immemorial these woods have yielded prime timber for all sorts of uses, as well as being a wonderful resource for wildlife. Join Wiston Woodland Manager, Tom West and Wiston Estate Manager, Richard Goring for a tranquil tour through one of Wiston’s largest woods. Find out how Wiston tackles the many challenges faced by modern foresters as they conserve wildlife while managing a profitable commercial woodland. Discover hidden habitats and perhaps, glimpse a deer!
We will start with coffees, teas and pastries at Chalk Restaurant at 9am to fuel us for the morning ahead, then head out in tractor and trailer. We will be guided through this beautiful and essential habitat which we have the privilege to work with, care for and nurture. The tour will return to the Chalk car park at around 13.00. Refreshments will be provided on the tour – including a glass of something sparkling if the weather allows…
We will be exploring some of the woodland on foot. Sensible shoes or boots with good grips are recommended and please dress appropriately for the weather. This tour requires participants to be of a moderate level of fitness – it will include walking around the woods, using ‘non-footpath’ routes and climbing over foot stiles.
If weather conditions look prohibitive we will make an assessment to postpone the tour with a minimum of 48 hours notice. Tickets may be cancelled and refunded up to 14 days before the tour, after this refunds will only be made if the places are resold.
Really enjoyable wine tour and tasting as part of a few days in the area. Our guide was an excellent guide and really brought the whole process to life when explaining what Wiston do and how they produce their excellent wines. We sampled a number of different styles and got to understand what makes each unique. It also seems a real family affair and labour of love for all involved. I would highly recommend a visit if in the area, and tag on lunch/dinner in their delightful restaurant if possible. July 2022.
An absolutely fantastic tour! Our tour guide had so much passion and energy that really came through whilst talking to us all. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment! And the wines......... WOW..... We are officially blown away by them! July 2022.
Delicious lunch followed by fascinating tour of the winery and tasting. Our guide brought the whole story of Wiston alive and was so knowledgeable and entertaining. The tasting was the icing on the cake. A perfect way to spend a summer Saturday afternoon. July 2022.
