A great introduction to Wiston Estate wines
Named Best Sparkling in the Independent English Wine Awards 2019 and before that a gold award in the 2017 International Wine Challenge, our house style is critics’ ‘go-to’ English sparkling wine.
Like a Blanc de Blancs, our Brut NV combines a purity of green apple and ripe lemon flavours with a rich and complex creamy maturity. Our Brut NV is a highly-scented sparkling wine with fine bubbles, lots of toasty, biscuity autolysis from long lees-aging and a long, dry finish.
To make this wine, composed mainly from our 2014 vintage with a little of the 2009 and 2013 reserves, we pressed grapes whole through our Coquard basket press, as used in Champagne, fermented in steel, then rested on its lees before bottling. After bottling, it was kept cool and capped (sur lattes) for over three years before being disgorged at a super-low dosage in 2018.
Richard Hemming MW, a writer for Jancis Robinson, called it ‘complex and interesting’ (and ‘seriously good value’), and Susy Atkins gave a glowing review in the Telegraph in 2020.
