We are recruiting for a Assistant Forester to join our team here at Wiston Estate.
Wiston Estate is a privately owned Rural Estate that includes extensive farmland, woodland, residential and commercial property and is managed commercially from an onsite office. The Estate is looking to achieve a sustainable future for itself as well as the estate team by promoting a productive yet supportive environment for all employees, with opportunities for growth and progression. The woodlands total approximately 1,200 acres of commercial woodland. We have active country side stewardship schemes generating a wide range of work such as open space management, haloing tree veterans and ride management. As well as the more general forestry work like tree felling and planting. Reporting to the Woodland Manager, your role will require you to work to the highest standard of both quality and safety working in the woodland areas of the Estate and at times supporting the Rural Maintenance team in aspects such as agricultural water jobs and fencing.
Responsibilities:
- Support in the implementation of forest management plans to ensure sustainable use of forest resources
- Monitor and manage forest regeneration, including planting and thinning operations
- Identify and mitigate threats to forest health, such as pests, diseases, and invasive species
- General forestry work include chainsaw work within your capabilities, occasional tree surgery and roadside work. (Climbing tickets/experience preferable but not essential)
- Fencing, firewood processing, mowing, felling and any other associated tasks.
- Working in accordance with the CS program to manage forestry compartments proactively and for the benefit of wildlife and timber production.
- Assist in delivering wood chip to the Biomass Boilers.
- To assist with general estate maintenance tasks including groundwork, drain repairs, agricultural water system repairs and occasional building tasks.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years forestry or tree work experience id desirable
- Competent and experienced with a chainsaw relevant ground-based chainsaw qualifications (CS 30/31 minimum)
