We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Porter to join the Chalk team at Wiston Estate. The Kitchen Porter will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and equipment, assisting with food preparation and ensuring that all health and safety regulations are adhered to. Chalk works alongside the multi award-winning winery set in the heart of the South Downs.
Full-time (flexible shifts – Wednesday to Sunday 8am – 5pm) £10.42ph.
Key responsibilities:
- Ensure that all equipment and utensils are cleaned and sanitized to the required standard.
- Assist with basic food preparation tasks such as washing and peeling vegetables and preparing salads.
- Ensure that all food waste is disposed of properly and efficiently.
- Follow all health and safety regulations, including correct handling of cleaning chemicals.
- Maintain a clean and tidy kitchen at all times, including sweeping and mopping floors, wiping down surfaces and emptying bins.
- Assist chefs and kitchen staff as required, including carrying heavy items and storing food supplies.
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth running of the kitchen.
- Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required.
Requirements:
- Previous experience as a Kitchen Porter is desirable but not essential
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high levels of cleanliness and hygiene
- Flexibility to work weekends and evenings as required
- Ability to work in a standing position for extended periods of time
- Basic understanding of health and safety regulations
- Willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities as required
