Volunteer Vacancy – Wiston Gardens

The Wiston Gardens Team is looking for volunteers with an interest in horticulture to join our small, friendly team for one day a week.

We maintain approximately 17 acres of gardens set around the Grade 1 Listed Wiston House, tucked away in the South Downs National Park. The gardens have formal borders and lawns around the main house, propagation glasshouse, display conservatory, ponds, herbaceous borders, box parterre, cut flower garden, walled vegetable garden, orchards, shrub borders, woodland areas, large lawns and parkland. We manage the garden as organically as possible with a strong focus on sustainability.

Duties may include working with the team and other volunteers to maintain different areas in the garden through pruning, weeding, deadheading, watering, propagation, P&D control and edging. On top of maintenance, we are keen to have volunteers involved in the larger projects in the gardens that will include new plantings and renovating areas.

The gardens are not currently open to the public and are a very quiet, tranquil space to spend time. In return we offer experience and in-house training to suit a wide range of horticultural interests. Experience is not required, just a real passion for plants, a good level of fitness and being happy to be working outdoors.

Must have own transport due to remote location.
