We're thrilled to announce that for the first time since our launch in 2012 we are releasing a vintage Blanc de Noirs and a cuvée in Magnum format.
2010 was a spectacular year for Wiston Estate. One of the best in our history, the vintage had the ideal balance between yield and ripeness of fruit. As a result, we have produced an opulent vintage Blanc de Noirs, which has been aged on its lees for 5 years, with a further year in bottle.
The Wiston Estate Cuvée 2008 Magnums are exceptionally unique since 2008 was our inaugural vintage and the wine has now matured on the lees for over 8 years. Initially launched in 2012 in 75cl bottles, there are just 150 magnums of this incredibly limited release.
Both releases are very significant as it is extremely rare to find English Sparkling Wines in larger formats and wines that have spent so long ageing on their lees.
“The release of these magnums from our first vintage is the most glorious culmination of my dream which was born 45 years ago. For us as a family it is wonderfully fitting that these incredibly special wines are ready for the celebration of Christmas.” Pip Goring
“One of the fabulous things about making such a broad range of wines at Wiston Estate is the opportunity to wait for each wine to achieve a high level of maturity before we release them from the cellar. This is absolutely the case with our Blanc de Noirs 2010, and even more so with our Cuvée 2008 in magnum from our inaugural vintage at Wiston Estate nine years ago. These are two profoundly different wines; but every bit as delicious as each other. The 100% Pinot Noir 2010 is rich, deep and multi-layered and contains an astonishing amount of fruit, allied to savoury notes of herbs, earth, forest floor and chalk-infused energy. It wears its wood very lightly indeed, which is always the intention even when fermented and aged entirely in old oak barrels, and has very slowly taken its time to evolve. It is now in its absolute prime.
It is an historic moment to finally release the first ever magnums produced at Wiston this Christmas. This small quantity of Cuvée 2008 in magnums have rested quietly on lees in the cellar since bottling in July 2009 and on cork since disgorging two years ago. Chardonnay dominates the blend (60%) and oh boy is it mature and flourishing after all these years of development… Each sip delivers an abundance of finesse-laden fruit, the chalky depths of which are apparent right from the initial attack, on through the silky, harmonious palate to a fantastically long, tapering finish. This is an extremely moreish wine that after 9 years has come of age in the most tremendous fashion!” Dermot Sugrue, Winemaker
