TOP SCORING WINES
Description
The 2018 harvest has gone down in recent folklore of UK grape growing as a year when the stars aligned. A four-week window of exceptional weather around flowering helped create a bountiful crop (approx. 70% more than the previous average) with exceptional level of ripeness. Who’d have bet on that in late February when we welcomed the Beast from the East?! The good weather persisted, through October, when the grapes were hand harvested from our Findon Park Vineyard – the original Wiston planting. For all these wines, the grapes were whole bunch-pressed gently in our Coquard press to preserve delicate fruit flavours and aromas. The still base wines were then aged in a combination of old oak barrels and stainless steel tanks, before being blended and bottled for secondary fermentation and lees ageing in our cellars.
BLANC DE BLANCS 2018 – 97 POINTS ‘Editor’s Choice’ – Wine Enthusiast, Aug 2025. Also, 94 POINTS – Decanter, July 25. Also winner of a Gold Medal at the 2023 International Wine Challenge, our Blanc de Blancs vintage comes from the steepest, chalkiest slopes of our original Findon Park Vineyard. Selected from vines with the best vineyard aspect, it is a true testament to a wine showcasing climate and place. Intense nougat and lemon zest on the nose, with ripe greengage, apples and pastry flavours on the palate. Aged in mature oak barrels and stainless steel, this single vineyard, single vintage, 100% Chardonnay is ready to drink now, but will age beautifully for those with patience.
BLANC DE NOIRS 2018 – 96 POINTS – Wine Enthusiast, Aug 2025. 95 POINTS – Decanter, July 25. Released in March 2025, this is a wonderful example of Blanc de Noirs, abundant with complex character and intensity of flavour. Aromas of baked pear, greengage, and rich buttery croissants. Great complexity and richness, yet fresh and balanced with a savoury mineral core. Undeniable potential to age further.
ROSÉ 2018 – 91 POINTS – Decanter, July 25. Our first release from the excellent 2018 vintage. The wine itself is a deep orangy pink sparkling rosé with red fruits on the nose, cherries, blood orange and hints of wild roses. Very typical of the fruit forward 2018 vintage. Rose petal on the palate with a refreshing acidity, an abundance of red fruits and a hint of brioche and vanilla.
