Introducing our new labels...
We’re celebrating new beginnings in 2025 by releasing new label designs for our non-vintage sparkling wines. Our distinctive colours remain as ever in our signature tones while the labels are now a beautifully designed oval which is inspired by two elements central to Wiston Estate’s story…
Back to the drawing board
When exploring the idea of a new design for our non-vintage labels – Richard & Kirsty Goring wanted to make sure the labels had a story and meaning behind the design – incorporating ingredients from Wiston the place, as well as elements from Rick’s family heritage. The bright turquoise colour on both the vintage and non-vintage labels is his mother Pip’s favourite colour and is a true expression of her vibrancy and South African heritage. They also wanted these labels to echo our vintage wine labels – with their distinctive oval shape. So, it was back to the drawing board to bring these ideas to life.
the heart of the south downs
Wiston Estate is located in the heart of the Sussex South Downs – a range of chalk hills which stretch across the southern coast of south-east England. The chalk subsoil found here is one of the elements which contribute to this area being ideal for grapes for quality sparkling wine. The Wiston vineyards are nestled in these hills. The conditions are ideal for growing grapes to make quality sparkling wine – the chalk soils akin to those of Champagne and the climate is moderated by the proximity to the ocean.
chanctonbury ring
Chanctonbury Ring is one of the iconic high points within Wiston Estate and sits right on the South Downs Way. It is also central to the Goring family history. Charles Goring (Rick’s great-great-great -grandfather) planted the ring in 1760, and once fully grown to maturity the crown of trees on the hilltop became a local landmark which still exists today. The winery where we make all our sparkling wines is located just two miles away from Chanctonbury Ring.
design time
When designing the new NV label, we wanted this to be like the oval shape on our vintage wine labels, as well as being similar to Chanctonbury Ring as depicted on the old OS map, with the short, repeated lines. These markings also felt resonant of our beloved wooden Coquard Press that we still use in the winery today at harvest.
expression of the land
Our Brand Director – Kirsty Goring said “The South Downs way comes across this highpoint at Chanctonbury Ring, making it the most walked over part of the estate. In the same way – we would love the non-vintage wines to be a gateway to the rest of the range, and would love for as many people as possible to taste this delicious and accessible expression of this land.”
